Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has opened up about the importance of professionalism and respect when working with female colleagues, particularly when filming intimate scenes. The popular Nigerian actor emphasized that clear communication and boundaries are essential in ensuring a comfortable and respectful working environment on movie sets.

In a recent interview with BBC News Igbo, Arukwe explained that he always takes time to discuss boundaries with actresses before filming scenes that may involve physical contact or intimacy. According to him, these discussions help both actors understand what is acceptable and ensure that no one feels uncomfortable during production.

The actor stated that mutual understanding is crucial in such situations because acting often requires performers to portray emotions or relationships that are purely fictional. By talking openly beforehand, he believes actors can maintain professionalism while still delivering convincing performances on screen.

“I always discuss boundaries with any female colleague I’m asked to act with,” Arukwe said during the interview. “I make sure we talk about what is acceptable before we start filming. I avoid touching areas that could make the actress or her partner uncomfortable. I am a married man.”

Arukwe stressed that his personal values and marital status play a major role in how he approaches his work. As a married man, he said he is careful to maintain respect not only for his colleagues but also for their personal relationships and families. He believes that this mindset helps prevent misunderstandings and keeps interactions on set strictly professional.

The Nollywood star also addressed rumours that have circulated online linking him romantically with several actresses he has worked with. Such speculation often arises in the entertainment industry when actors share strong on-screen chemistry, but Arukwe made it clear that these claims are unfounded.

He dismissed the rumours, explaining that what audiences see in movies is simply part of his job as a performer. According to him, acting requires portraying believable relationships, but those roles do not reflect real-life relationships with co-stars.

“The rumours about me and different women are not true,” he said. “What people see in movies is just part of my work.”

Arukwe further spoke about how one of his most notable roles significantly boosted his career. He highlighted the popularity of the “Odogwu” character he portrayed, explaining that the role helped increase his visibility and recognition in the Nigerian film industry.

According to him, playing that character created new opportunities and introduced him to a wider audience. The performance resonated strongly with viewers, and many fans began to associate him with the memorable role.

“The Odogwu character I played opened more doors for me,” Arukwe added. “That role brought more attention to my career. Many people now recognise me because of that character.”

Over the years, Arukwe has built a reputation as a versatile actor in Nollywood, appearing in numerous films and television productions. His ability to portray different personalities—from romantic leads to strong dramatic characters—has helped him gain popularity among fans of Nigerian cinema.

Beyond acting talent, he believes professionalism is one of the most important qualities an actor can have. For him, respecting colleagues, maintaining clear boundaries, and focusing on the craft are essential for building a successful and lasting career in the film industry.

Arukwe’s comments also reflect broader conversations within the global entertainment industry about consent, professionalism, and respect when filming sensitive scenes. Many actors and production teams now emphasize communication and clear guidelines to ensure that everyone involved feels safe and respected during filming.

By openly discussing his approach, Arukwe hopes to encourage a culture of professionalism within the industry while reassuring fans that his relationships with colleagues remain strictly work-related.
